Sandile Dam, named after the Xhosa chief Sandile, was completed in 2001 as the newest addition to the Amatola Water system. The dam represents modern water engineering and incorporates advanced environmental management practices. It was constructed to address growing water demands and improve water security for the region.

From Queenstown, take the R392 towards Whittlesea. After passing through Whittlesea, continue for 15km and turn right at the Sandile Dam signage. Follow the access road for 6km to the main entrance.
