Wriggleswade Dam, the largest in the Amatola Water system, was constructed between 1965 and 1969. Named after the Wriggleswade River, this massive structure was a significant engineering achievement of its time. The dam has been instrumental in supporting the industrial and domestic water needs of the Buffalo City Metropolitan area for over 50 years.

From East London, take the N2 west towards Kokstad. After approximately 35km, turn right onto the R72 towards Hamburg. Continue for 12km and turn left at the Wriggleswade Dam sign. Follow the access road for 5km to the main entrance.
